History

The Chums organization was founded in 1946 in Norfolk, VA by Mary Barnes, Joyce Tate Brown and Theodora Jackson Cora. The organization has grown to 39 Chapters throughout the United States. We are inspired by our themes: "Sharing, caring, and serving with love." and "Listen to the children."

The Providence Chapter, sponsored by the New York Chapter, was organized by Constance Edmonds in 1961.

Providence Chapter Highlights

Members are currently knitting and crocheting infant caps as part of the Caps to the Capital under the sponsorship of Save the Children. Two million newborns die each year in developing countries within the first month of life - half within only the first 24 hours after being born. Something as simple as a cap can help in keeping these babies warm. Most of us put our knitting needles and crochet hooks away years ago. It has been a fun project and one in which he hope to enlighten our leaders in Washington that more needs to be done to support children in developing countries.

We are currently accepting applications for the Edmonds Scholarship. The deadline is April 30, 2014. For more information click here.
